Cooling Duties in Wind Turbine Equipment

Cooling requirements depend on the turbine design and the fluid circuit. We review the specified duty before proposing an exchanger configuration.

  • Gearbox oil: Heat removal from the lubrication circuit of a geared turbine.
  • Liquid coolant: Cooling for a defined water or glycol circuit.
  • Auxiliary equipment: Project-specific oil or coolant duties.

Engineering Review Before Manufacturing

We confirm the design basis with your engineering or procurement team before production.

  • Define the duty — Fluids, flow rates, temperatures, pressure, and required cooling capacity.
  • Check the fit — Overall dimensions, mounting points, connections, airflow, and service access.
  • Review the construction — Materials, tube arrangement, environmental requirements, and inspection scope.
  • Approve the documents — Confirm drawings and order requirements before manufacturing.

What to Send for a New or Replacement Cooler

For New Equipment, please provide the available:

  • Preliminary drawing or installation envelope
  • Fluid type and concentration
  • Heat load and flow rate
  • Inlet and target outlet temperatures
  • Operating pressure and ambient conditions
  • Required materials, quantity, and documentation

For Replacement or Retrofit, please provide the available:

  • Existing cooler drawing, if available
  • Nameplate and photos of the unit
  • Overall and mounting dimensions
  • Connection locations and sizes
  • Known operating duty and failure details
  • Required design changes or space limits

If the original drawing is unavailable, send the information you currently have. We will identify which dimensions and operating data still need to be confirmed before quotation.

Manufacturing, Inspection and Certifications

Our management systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018. Applicable Pressure Vessel, CCS, and ASME certification documents can be reviewed according to project requirements. VT, UT, and PT inspection by qualified personnel is available when specified.

Production Control

Materials, connections, critical dimensions, and assembly requirements are according to the approved manufacturing documents.

Inspection and Testing

Overall dimensions, mounting points, connection positions , and pressure or leakage testingare checked before shipment.

Project Documentation

Material certificates, inspection records, test reports, and other required documents are prepared according to the confirmed order .

FAQ

A direct-drive turbine has no gearbox, so it does not have that particular cooling duty. Its other equipment may still use liquid cooling circuits; the exchanger requirement depends on the turbine design.

Do not assume so. The environment, materials, surface protection, and project specifications should be reviewed for each installation.

The supply boundary depends on the approved drawing and quotation. State any required fan or other accessories in your enquiry so the scope can be confirmed.

Possibly, but a dimensional match alone is insufficient. The new heat load, fluid conditions, airflow or cooling source, and available installation space must be reviewed first.
